Natty
One of the hottest music tips for 2008 has to be the uber-cool Natty who played at the Sandsifter in Cornwall on 11 April.
Natty has already bagged supports with the likes of Adele and Kate Nash and is being confirmed for many of the major festivals. His style of music clearly displays shades of some of the influences he is drawing from, the likes of Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix to The Clash & Joy Division. Born and raised in North London and nourished from an early age by a diet of defining classic albums from David Bowie, Van Morrison, and Joy Division to Slum Village, Fela Kuti, Sizzla and Lee Perry (who he recently supported on tour).
His own first steps along the musical path began back in a dimly lit studio making tea for others and quietly absorbing the atmosphere and goings on around him. He quickly graduated from brewing tea to producing, remixing and engineering for the studio's various bands. Simultaneously, and unbeknownst to those around him, Natty had privately started melding lyrics into songs, finally deciding to make the jump to being a fully fledged solo artist in his own right by "putting the two sides of me together just to see wa gwan."
His innovative style and lyrical charm has led Natty to being one of the most talked about new artists in the UK, with an MTV UK session and Music Week ‘tips for 2008’ cover mount CD already under his hat, great things are expected from this new artist who is due to release his debut album later this year.

RUARRI JOSEPH TO PLAY ACOUSTIC SHOW AT THE SANDSIFTER
Ruarri Joseph has confirmed he is to play an acoustic show at the Sandsifter in Gwithian on May 16th.

Anyone who has a copy of his debut album “Tales of Grime and Grit” (released last year on Atlantic Records) will know it as a slice of deliciously laid back melody and good old-fashioned troubadour. You won’t find the classic singer songwriter fodder of misery and anguished introspection, Josephs’ songs focus instead on family, friends, and good times and burgeon with feelgood narrative.
His new EP, “They Run The World But They Can’t Ride A Bike”, which has been recorded in his shed came out at the end of March, and focuses on the minutiae of the people and characters around him. “I’m not here to set the world to rights” he says, “I guess I write about the little things, the tiny details that make people unique”. Joseph started playing guitar at the age of 11, when he moved to Newquay and his parents split up, a moment in his life which he now sees as pivotal.
“Songwriting suddenly became a really natural thing to retreat into,” he explains. “I’m not saying I was some hopeless misfit, but at the same time I wasn’t out playing football, or drinking with the other kids. I wasn’t Johnny Popular. So I just sat at home writing songs.”
Currently on tour with Seth Lakeman, Joseph will be supported by Noel Prior, who has recently recorded a new album, whilst laid up with an ankle injury. It’s a rare opportunity to see The Noel Prior Band’s songs stripped back to an acoustic set (he will be accompanied by bass player Harry Mackaille)
Tickets are £5 (stbf) and are available from www.seetickets.com 0870 2200260 (24hr) and The Sandsifter.

PALLADIUM TO PLAY MAY’S TUCK SHOP
The Tuck Shop Clubnight is a monthly night aimed at bringing up and coming bands to the South West (the first Tuesday of the month at L2 in Truro and the day after at the Plymouth Student Uni) and has recently featured acts hot indie acts The Courteeners and The Young Knives. Promoters SW1 have previously bought top acts such as The Kaiser Chiefs and The Kooks to Cornwall before anyone had heard of them, and they are hoping that audiences will trust them enough to come along even if they’re not aware of the headline act at the time of the show. The aim is to include a local opener whenever possible, and the nights also feature local djs and a tuck shop of retro sweeties with flying saucers and curly wurlies, plus the chance to win free entry to next months’ show if you pick the sweetie bag with the golden ticket! One of the few nights open to under 18s (both venues have an over 16s license), it’s a rare opportunity to see bands of this calibre in a small clubnight setting.
Following the regrettable cancellation of April’s Tuck Shop, the clubnight is back with a vengeance in May. Featuring Palladium, who are currently on tour with The Kooks, plus tour support local openers as yet to be confirmed, the night looks set to be another corker.

With their debut album produced in LA by Tony Hoffer (Beck, The Kooks), the band got together a couple of years back, acquaintances through grueling tours on the session musician circuit. Sporting tweed, flowery shirts and (rather incongruously) golf visors on occasion, the band delight in breaking rules and defying pigeonholing, making music that is “epic, joyful and ludicrous”.
A four-piece of ludicrously talented musicians, who look like they got lost in a fancy dress cupboard, delivering a barrage of positive vibes. Bringing to mind things that you love as well as things that might make you feel rather uneasy: Pink Floyd, The Police, Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Tango In The Night’, Steely Dan, Toto, Stevie Wonder, Hall & Oates and The Who in the early 70s.
Palladium will play at the Tuck Shop Clubnights on May 6th at L2, Truro, May 7th at the Plymouth Student Uni) Tickets £7 (stbf, over 16s ID may be required) available from www.seetickets.com, 08712200260, Sneaky Peanut in Truro and Falmouth and Plymouth Student Union for the Plymouth show only.

The music was world class thanks to very special guests The Hoxton Whores and Ry Spenceley whipping the main floor into a total frenzy. While the lounge bar was treated to musical treats from the hottest new DJ collabiration "Sir Vinyl Of The Fattest." featuring Dave Spenceley and Will Vegas.

Eden Sessions — The Verve
In a major coup, the Sessions team have secured The Verve to play at Eden on Friday 27th June.

The Verve were known for their music's complex, immersive sonic textures. Their last album Urban Hymns featured the anthemic Bitter Sweet Symphony which was a hit on both sides of the Atlantic, and remains the band's most well-known song together with their UK number 1 "The drugs don't work."
We're still in the process of confirming the other Sessions with further big names in the pipeline and will get in touch as soon as this happens. There are likely to be 6 sessions this year.
Tickets go on general release at 6.30pm on Thursday 27th March. Tickets are £40 each and include a £5 booking fee. The increase in ticket price reflects the band fee for the concert.
To book your tickets go to www.edenbookings.com or call the box office on 01726 811972.
