RIP CURL unleashed

GROOVE ARMADA, zutons and pigeon detectives HEADLINE

zutons

Organisers of the Rip Curl Boardmasters Unleashed Festival, the South West’s largest live music festival, are delighted to announce that ‘The Zutons’ have been confirmed to join Groove Armada on the mainstage on Friday 08th August.

The Zutons, Liverpool's first great band of the 21st century release their highly anticipated new album, You Can Do Anything, through Deltasonic on Monday 2nd June. You Can Do Anything is the follow-up to the multi platinum selling albums Tired Of Hanging Around and the Nationwide Mercury Prize nominated debut Who Killed The Zutons? A single, Always Right Behind You, is available for download two weeks earlier on May 19th and on CD single and 7” vinyl on May 26th.
You Can Do Anything was recorded at Sunset Sound Studios in LA during January/February 2008 and was produced by George Drakoulias (The Black Crowes/Primal Scream/Tom Petty).
The Zutons have so far scored two Top 10 Hits with Why Won’t You Give Me Your Love? & Valerie (both from Tired Of Hanging Around) and six Top 40 - Pressure Point, You Will You Won’t, Remember Me, Don’t Ever Think (Too Much), Confusion and Oh Stacey (Look What You’ve Done!). Valerie has been in the Top 100 Radio Airplay Charts for one hundred weeks, it entered the charts in May 2006 (where it was one of the biggest airplay records of the year) and is still there, courtesy of the Mark Ronson/Amy Winehouse version.
This will be a welcome return to Cornwall for the band who last played a sell out show at Truro’s Hall For Cornwall in 2007.
The Zutons are undisputedly one the UK’s greatest live bands around today and are a fantastic addition this already superb line-up for 2008.

The dawn patrol or early bird tickets, were snapped up by eager fans of the festival returning to Newquay for their summer dose of live music.
This comes as no surprise to event manager Andrew Topham, “The dawn patrol ticket has always proved popular with Boardmasters Unleashed’s ever increasing fan base but the rate at which they sold this year was unprecedented. It’s fantastic to know we have this growing following and justifies the additions and improvements we endeavour to make to give back to the Rip Curl Boardmasters fans.”
Organisers are also excited to announce the release of the ‘Charger ticket’, an all-in pass that allows festival goer’s access to all 5 Beach Sessions as well as a weekend ticket for Boardmasters Unleashed at Watergate Bay for only £99.99, saving fans £22.49. The line-up for this year’s Beach Sessions is yet to be announced but expect some of the hottest up and coming bands of the moment. Last year’s line-up saw the likes of Enter Shikari, Seasick Steve and Pigeon Detectives playing to an intimate sell-out crowd on Fistral Beach
.
For full line-up details visit www.ripcurlboardmasters.com
Tickets are priced £99.99/’Charger’ 5 Beach Sessions + RCB Unleashed Weekender.
£29.99/day and £54.99/weekend. Tickets are available from: www.ripcurlboardmasters.com and locally at Hall for Cornwall, Truro 01872 262466.

The 2008 Rip Curl Boardmasters Unleashed on August 8th and 9th can confirm more names to play at this year’s festival, The Young Knives, Reverend & The Makers and Cage The Elephant are among the latest bands to be announced for the South West’s biggest live music festival.

Not only playing host to internationally recognised acts including the likes of Groove Armada and the Pigeon Detectives, ‘Unleashed’ will also be a great place to see the best emerging artists from the South West.

The new ‘locals stage’ at this year’s festival will showcase the cream of breaking and undiscovered talent already creating a buzz on the South West music scene. Local promoter’s and festival bookers SW1 Productions are working together with West Briton’s What’s On Lee Trewhela to programme a two day line-up which will be hosted by the monthly club night ‘The Tuck Shop’.

Event organiser, Andrew Topham, welcomed the addition of a new stage stating “people tend to forget that everyone from Coldplay, Muse, James Morrison and Ruarri Joseph have all come out of the South West. The new stage will be a great place to see the best up and coming talent from the region, who knows, we may even see some of them coming back to headline the mainstage in years to come.”

The festival has always prided itself on giving local bands and musicians a chance to launch themselves into the mainstream. Last year’s mainstage saw the likes of Truro based Noel Prior Band and Newquay local Ruarri Joseph supporting headlinders Ash and Paolo Nutini. This year will be no exception with Rosie and The Gold Bug and The Astro Firs playing alongside everyone from The Mystery Jets to The Futureheads

Tickets are priced £29.99/day and £54.99/weekend. Tickets are available from: www.ripcurlboardmasters.com and locally at Hall for Cornwall, Truro 01872 262466.

Groove Armada

Famous for some of the biggest dance anthems of our times Groove Armada will most definitely bring on the party spirit to the festival with their revved up live show. With a massive back catalogue and a career spanning Best of out at the moment you can expect a greatest hits set consisting of some of the biggest, towering songs of our times such as I See you Baby, Superstylin’ and At The River, the songs that made Groove Armada the household name that they have become.

They formed when DJ’s Andy Cato and Tom Findlay met in 1995 and they have gone on to become one of the most successful songwriting partnerships of recent times. From starting their own club night they went onto become regulars on the club scene, released four albums, reinvented the house music wheel, have been nominated for a Grammy award and witnessed their Best of fly off the shelves. 3 million album sales later Groove Armada has been a vehicle for success more than the pair could ever have imagined.

The Young Knives – mainstage Sat 09th

Returning to Cornwall after a highly successful visit earlier this year with a sell out show at SW1 Productions ‘Tuck Shop’ club night in Truro, the Young Knives will be bringing a much needed dose of English eccentricity to the cliff top near Newquay.

Since the last visit, Young Knives released their critically acclaimed ‘top twenty’ second album ‘Superabundance’ on the Transgressive label and have been touring relentlessly. Young Knives are currently blazing across Europe with their superb take on British Indie, pop punk.

Reverend and the Makers - Mainstage Sat 09th

Reverend and the Makers play electro Indie Rock n Roll and are fronted by one John McClure, aka ‘The Reverend’.

Hailing from Sheffield, the same scene that gave the world the Arctic Monkeys, the band who gave them their first chance to make it when they were invited to be main support on their 2006 sell out UK tour.

They weren’t in the shadow of their chart topping buddies for long though. Within months they were topping them themselves with hit singles under their belts such as ‘Heavy Weight Champion of the World’ - a tune which could quite capably become the anthem of this year’s festival!

The Holloways – Second stage Friday 08th

The Holloways formed in the infamous grotty boozer called Nambucca on Holloway Road, north London, back in November 2004.
The Holloways play a form of calypso tinged indie rock and pride themselves on the fact they make happy, uplifting music. Hit single ‘Generator’ would be the best example of this, charting high in October 2006. Generator was subsequently named one of NME's best songs of the year for 2006 and was a massive radio hit.
Their album ‘So this is great Britain’ was released on the TVT label and the band have since attracted huge attention from both the media and earned themselves a loyal live following.

Cage The Elephant – mainstage Saturday 09th

Bowling Green, Kentucky is a small town in the American south. It’s best known for manufacturing Chevrolet Corvettes and Fruit Of The Loom underwear. Soon, it’s going to be best known for manufacturing thunderously sexy rock’n’roll. And with that, the next great American rock band. Meet Cage The Elephant: they’re coming your way….
Infact Cornwall’s first dose of CTE happened with a staggeringly bold opening song at the bands supporting show with The Subways last month..literally blasting into current single ‘In One Ear’ lead singer Matt Schultz climbed the PA stack and hurled himself into a frenzied crowd!
If you need comparisms, they are loads and the band wear them firmly on their sleeves… White Stripes, Kings of Leon, Queens of the Stone age mixed with funk of Rage Against The Machine…however, this band will have their own story, after supports with The Subways, Queens Of The Stone Age and Wolfmother already under their belt and a soon to be touring with the mighty Pigeon Detectives (mainstage headliners), it’s sure to be a big year!

Jersey Budd – mainstage & 2nd Stage – Friday 08th

Inspired by his fathers love of Dylan, Springsteen, Lou Reed, Cat Stevens, Paul Weller, and also later captivated by Oasis, Jersey picked up a guitar as a teenager and taught himself to play.

The result is a collection of classically crafted songs, shaped by his peers, yet effortlessly his own; his unique voice, soul, and talent for a melody having led to Jersey being tipped as one to watch after only a handful of gigs.
Catch Jersey on tour in July to support his debut ltd edition single “Bright Soul”.
