CHILE
Expect a nice place with good public
transport, but long treks between the towns. The prime months are
March to September, when low pressure systems are pushing swell up from
the South Pacific. Take your full quiver. The locals charge
some very big waves, but you can hide on the inside section at most of the
points! For dinner you'll be having some excellent fish,
if you can find a decent restaurant. Check out the completos,
a Chilean reinvention of the hotdog with literally everything on it—cholesterol
city! Stay at any decent place you can find! Make
sure you take Spanish lessons before you go. Most of the surfers
speak a bit of English, but it really helps if you make the effort. Don't
miss the Atacama desert, the driest place on earth and home to
the remarkable 'Chariots of the Gods' hieroglyphs. If it's flat,
you're very, very unucky! |
